This section will collect primary-source documents, official election materials, financial information and other records relevant to Proposition 497. Documents will be added as they are reviewed and verified.
Primary sources
- Yavapai County Elections — official Proposition 497 materials.
- Yavapai County — Jail District funding information.
- Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission — 2026 Yavapai County election information.
What the official sources establish
- Proposed tax: An additional 1/4 cent per dollar, increasing the Jail District excise tax from 1/4 cent to 1/2 cent.
- Duration: If approved, the increase would begin July 1, 2027 and continue for 20 years.
- Future revenue need: The County’s Proposition 497 description identifies an estimated $41.44 million annual future revenue need.
- General Fund amounts: The County identifies $8.88 million for legally required maintenance of effort and an additional $16.15 million from the General Fund.
- NO vote: The official election description states that a NO vote rejects the proposed increase.
County financial records
The County’s FY2024–25 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report provides additional financial context. It reports that Jail District expenditures exceeded Jail District excise-tax and maintenance-of-effort funding and identifies an additional County contribution beyond maintenance of effort.
These financial records are presented as historical documentation. They should not be treated as a prediction of what the County will do if Proposition 497 is rejected.
